Overview

The Public Education Programme ("PEP") aims to work with the insurance sector on publicity and outreach to promote public awareness of the wide range of career opportunities in the insurance sector and the career paths of functional jobs in the sector.

Public Activities

 

 

During the academic year 2017/18 and 2018/19, the Pilot Programme organises student and teacher education workshops in secondary schools through Po Leung Kuk. Chamber Solving Game will also take place during summer 2018 and 2019. The activities could allow students to learn the ample job functions and positions in the insurance industry, as well as to enhance their understanding towards the risk management sector. Details of the game and school workshops are as follows:

Chamber Solving Competition 2019

Target: Senior Secondary School Students (S.4 to S.6) and Tertiary Students
Participants: 3 to 4 students per team
Date of competition:  27/7/2019 – 4/8/2019
Time of competition: 12:00 nn – 9 pm (60 minutes per round, including a 45-minute game and a 15-minute briefing )
Venues:

Wong Chuk Hang Room: Unit A, 4/F, 33-35 Wong Chuk Hang Road
OR
Mongkok Room: 8/F, Oriental House, 24-26 Argyle St

 
Content:                                                       

Participating teams can select a timeslot within the date and timeframe of the competition. In the game, each participant plays a different role, including underwriter, claim manager, risk manager and actuary. Within a tailored story setting, the team needs to search clues and use the abilities of different roles to solve the mysteries in order to escape from the chamber within a time limit and win a prize! The better the team understands the job functions and scope of the roles, the more effective the team could solve the mysteries.

Vocational Training Workshop (for Students)
Target: Senior Secondary School Students (S.4 to S.6)
Content:  

The awareness of the financial and risk management sector as a focal point, the Workshop includes the following features:

  • Career Seminar / Workshop: To build students’ interest and acceptability towards the risk management sector by understanding different job functions and positions within the industry.
  • Mock Interview: Volunteers from the sector will conduct training to provide students with insight into the skills required for the industry, such as a prudent and systematic mind, interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills, and improve their capabilities in career development.
  • Company Visit: Company visits are arranged for students to experience the actual working environment and operations between departments. Together with sharing from industry practitioners on the entry path, job requirements and industry information, the visit can raise students’ awareness and enable them to equip themselves earlier to stay at a competitive edge.

To raise youngsters and public awareness of the wide range of career opportunities and the career path of professionals in different functions in insurance industry, the PEP launched the "News-reporting Video Filming Competition for Insurance Sector". Through the Competition, participants attended public seminar and workshops in order to equip with the knowledge on insurance and learn about the ample job opportunities in the industry, as well as the process of developing a TV news report.

Inter-School Innovation Competition on Insurance Technology: Life Can Be Insured (Concluded)
 

The Public Education Programme entrusted Cyberport to organise the “Inter-School Innovation Competition on Insurance Technology: Life Can Be Insured”in Sept to Nov 2018. The competition aims to raise students’ awareness on career opportunities and career path in the insurance industry, and to inspire innovation and develop the problem-solving skills in insurance and related technologies.

The competition comprises the secondary division and the tertiary division. Students of the secondary division are required to develop a mobile app, game or platform to provide users with either basic concepts of insurance or the industry prospect, whereas a hackathon will be held for the tertiary division to develop InsurTech solutions to tackle pain points of the insurance industry. Public Seminar on "Explore Your Future"
The public seminar featured seasoned in-service practitioners from the middle- and back-offices of the insurance industry to share their views in career prospect, opportunities and challenges, professional development and interesting encounters to the public.
 
Two Key Opinion Leaders, Mrs MAK HO Siu Kuen (the author of a popular parenting book) and Ms Alison CHANG (a veteran executive search professional and career counsellor) were also invited to share their own parenting journeys, as well as to provide insights into how to unleash children's full potential for attaining goals and aspirations.

News Story Filming Competition Award Presentation Ceremony
The News Story Filming Competition Award Presentation Ceremony will be held on 16 September 2017.  The event will present awards to winners of the competition, with seasoned industry practitioners to share their experience and insights in the insurance sector.  TVB actor, Mr Benjamin YUEN will also join the sharing session.  There will also be game booths to enhance public knowledge on insurance industry.

 "It' s a Cool Profession" Roving Truck will tour the 18 districts from 12:00 noon to 6:00 pm, from 5 to 29 March 2018. The public will be able to learn more about the middle- and back-office operations of the insurance profession by taking a prize quiz or by participating in role-matching game.
